Symi

Mara and I have found that one of the joys of cruising is discovering unexpected places. Sometimes you are en route from one place you've planned to go to another, and you just stumble upon a place that makes your jaw drop.

That happened to us recently as we looked pulled into an island called Symi on our way from Rhodes to Turkey. We pulled into the long bay where the town is just before sunset. The fine Venetian houses of the town, so different from the stark white of Santorini, were almost glowing in the setting sun.

We docked right on the town quay and got cleaned up for dinner (not too bad!).

The next day Mara and I hiked up to the cathedral on the hill.

And while we spent less than 24 hours there, Symi was definitely a hightlight!

Now onward to Turkey!
