Paris Day 4 - Day 6: Versailles, Macarons, and Last Sites

Day 4

Versailles! Needless to say, it is big. It is gold. It is impressive. We had a great time in the castle itself, especially learning more about how Louis XIV (pronounced "Louie Ex.. Eye. Vee.") and Louis XVI made different adjustments and additions. Our favorite parts were actually the gardens & fountains, and Petite Trianon, and the Hameau de la Reine where Marie Antoinette would pretend she was a commoner living in a little village? We gained a little sympathy for the maligned queen, too.

Day Five

By our fifth day in Paris, we were in danger of a total Ryan mutiny. So, after an extended sleep-in and some pastries, we asked what would make her happy. Her answer? MACARONS! We found a class that afternoon with spots left, and we had it made. They were quite delicious, too! But not sure I'll be trying them when we get home... Maybe Kenning, our resident baker will.

Day Six

This was it! Our LAST DAY in Paris!!! Kenning and Mara were determined to see as much as possible! President Macron had, again, messed up our attempt to see Les Invalides & Napoleon's tomb a few days before (was he following us???), so that was on our list, as were Sacre Coeur, Le Conciergerie & Saint Chapelle, and maybe some shopping? We took off in the morning at break-neck pace...

We also made it to Les Invalides and Napoleon's tomb, but were too rushed to take any pictures. (And that is his favorite horse's skeleton hanging above his casket? What?)

And learned that sometimes things just don't go exactly as you'd like. So we "saved" Saint Chapelle for our next visit...

Á la prochaine, Paris!!!
