Side Trip to Turkey

For one of our last adventures on this amazing trip, we left Luna Bay in Greece and took the short ferry ride over to Turkey.

First up was visiting with friends Charlie & Lizz, who live on their very own catamaran for half of the year in Turkey. They showed us the ropes in Turkey, helped do a little translating, and took us to an amazing dinner our first night there:

We anchored near Bodrum castle and spent a few days much like we have most of this trip, swimming, snorkeling and exploring.

Then, on Charlie & Lizz's "must-do" recommendation, we took a couple flights to Central Turkey to a place called Cappidocia, which is known for it's other worldly rock formations and ancient caves.

There we learned a ton about the ancient history of Turkey and this region, and how their came to be hundreds and hundreds of tiny Christian churches carved into the rock faces.

We packed a lot into a couple days in Cappidocia. The girls even went hot air balooning early one morning!

Ryan, of course, was making friends with the wildlife. No surprise there!

The food in Turkey was amazing, and the Turkish go ALL OUT for their meals. Witness, breakfast!:

The girls tried "throwing" a little pottery:

We even got to witness a Whirling Dervish ceremony.

We packed an awful lot into a 3 day trip, but hey, we're almost done and we don't call it the Lowry Olympics for nothing!
